PRESS RELEASES
NB: Please note the disclaimer at the end of this press release
21 November 2005 - BIOPETROL INDUSTRIES AG is listed as of today in Deutsche Börse's new Entry Standard quality segment.
We are using the EUR 57.4 million issue proceeds to finance our growth strategy, said CEO Christoph Dicks. With a clearly focussed business model we are already well positioned in Germany and our medium-term aim is to become one of Europe's top five biodiesel providers.
Production capacity to be increased fivefold by 2008
BIOPETROL INDUSTRIES AG currently produces about 150,000 tonnes of biodiesel
and 30,000 tonnes of pharmaceutical grade glycerol a year at its Schwarzheide
location in Brandenburg, north of Berlin. By 2008, Dicks said,
we at the BIOPETROL Group aim to achieve an overall capacity of around
750,000 tonnes of biodiesel and 70,000 tonnes of pharmaceutical grade glycerol
a year at four production locations. The second works is already under
construction in Rostock. A third is planned in Germany and a fourth in Benelux.
The planned locations will open up key areas in Central, Eastern and Northern Europe and thereby increase the customer base. We are going for direct links to seaports, waterways, rail and motorway networks and proximity to oil industry locations, Dicks said. At the same time the company would continue to focus on the highest quality of production and distribution. Our biodiesel fulfils the strict DIN EN 14214 standard and our pharmaceutical grade glycerol, a biodiesel production spin-off, has a kosher certificate.
BIOPETROL INDUSTRIES reports positive result after tax
to 30 September 2005
In the first nine months of 2005 the BIOPETROL Group's pro forma consolidated
sales were EUR 57.20 million. Earnings before interest and taxes amounted
to EUR 3.97 million, equivalent to a 6.9 % EBIT margin. Earnings after tax
totalled EUR 2.2 million.
Biodiesel growth market
In Europe Frost & Sullivan forecasts an increase in annual capacity from around
2.6 million tonnes (EUR 2.0 million in sales) today to nearly 10 million tonnes
(EUR 8.5 million in sales) by 2011. In Germany 1.2 million tonnes of biodiesel,
or 40 times more renewable vegetable fuel than 10 years ago, was sold in 2004,
according to industry association UFOP.
Diesel oil and biodiesel are no longer competing products, they complement each other, said BIOPETROL's Dicks. Up to 5 % of biodiesel can be added to conventional diesel fuel at present. The European Union plans a significant increase in this quota in the years ahead. Since October 2005 a 2.5 % admixture has been mandatory in Austria, and from 2007 a 2 % admixture will be mandatory in the Netherlands.
BIOPETROL INDUSTRIES AG's head office is in Zug, Switzerland, a centre of the international mineral oil trade in Europe. Wholly owned subsidiary BIOPETROL INDUSTRIES GmbH in Düsseldorf manages distribution, procurement, technology, production and logistics.
