BIOPETROL: Significant growth in sales and margins

March 28, 2006. BIOPETROL Industries AG boosted consolidated sales in fiscal year 2005 to EUR 87.1 million compared to prior year's figure* of EUR 19.1 million. Earnings from operating activities (EBIT) surged from EUR 0.3 million to EUR 5.8 million, with the EBIT margin climbing from 1.4 % to 6.6%. The biodiesel producer reported consolidated net income of EUR 3.2 million (prior year: EUR 0.1 million) and thus an after-tax return of 3.7 %. The earnings per share 2005 were EUR 0.1.
“In 2005, BIOPETROL grew faster than the market. And we intend to continue this trend also in 2006,” said Christoph Dicks, Chief Executive Officer of BIOPETROL Industries AG. “Sector experts forecast annual market growth of 26 %. We want to increase our production capacities by a factor of five to 750,000 tons of biodiesel through the end of 2007.”
Sound financial structure
Due to the capital increase of the private placement on November 21, 2005
and through the improved net income for the year the share capital rose to
EUR 63.2 million, compared to EUR 6.1 million the year before. The equity
ratio is 88.7 %. The company has completely repaid all financial liabilities.
Cash amounted to EUR 35.1 million by Dec. 31.
2006: Sales in the treble-digit millions
In the past fiscal year, BIOPETROL invested around EUR 10 million in expanding
production capacities in Schwarzheide in Brandenburg and in Rostock. At present
BIOPETROL is building a plant in Rostock with an annual capacity of initially
150,000 tons and of later 200,000 tons of biodiesel. The plant is expected
to contribute to sales and earnings starting October 2006. Sales in 2006 are
expected to exceed one hundred million euros for the first time. In Rotterdam
in The Netherlands, BIOPETROL is planning to put in place annual biodiesel
production capacity of 400,000 tons by year-end 2007.

The Company
BIOPETROL INDUSTRIES AG, based in Zug, Switzerland, produces and distributes
premium quality biodiesel and pharmaceutical grade glycerine through its German
subsidiaries. Its clients include the mineral oil industry and resellers,
large fleet operators and public transport companies. Moreover, pharmaceutical
glycerine is supplied to the pharmaceuticals and cosmetics industry.
BIOPETROL INDUSTRIES AG currently produces around 150,000 tons of biodiesel and 30,000 tons of pharmaceutical glycerine per year in Schwarzheide. In early February 2006, the foundation stone for another facility was laid in Rostock. 150,000 tons of biodiesel per year will be produced there from October 2006. In Rotterdam in The Netherlands, the company will erect a production facility for 400,000 tons of biodiesel and 60,000 tons of pharmaceutical glycerine. By the end of 2007, annual capacity should have increased by a factor of five to 750,000 tons of biodiesel.
