BIOPETROL lays foundation stone in Rotterdam — third facility to start up in late autumn

BIOPETROL INDUSTRIES AG has laid the foundation stone for its new biodiesel facility in Rotterdam, making it the largest European producer of biodiesel in the most important European refinery centre. The third production facility of BIOPETROL - after Schwarzheide (Brandenburg) and Rostock (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) - will create 51 new jobs this autumn and will initially have an annual capacity of 400,000 tonnes of biodiesel and 60,000 tonnes of glycerine. Total investment amounts to approx. €80 million. From mid-2008, capacity will be extended up to 650,000 tonnes of biodiesel.
Operations in the first two phases at Rotterdam are planned to begin at the end of the last quarter of 2007. A third phase is still at the planning stage. Including Rotterdam, the Group's total annual capacity will be raised in two stages to 750,000 tonnes from 2007 and up to 1,000,000 tonnes of biodiesel from 2008.
Rotterdam will allow BIOPETROL to cover the most important consumer markets in north, west and central Europe and to increase its customer base. Werner Klink, Chairman of the Board of Directors of BIOPETROL INDUSTRIES AG said: “Rotterdam allows us to accelerate our international growth and we will soon occupy a powerful market position in one of the most important strategic locations in Europe.”
CEO Klaus Henschel added: “Rotterdam is an ideal location for BIOPETROL, placing us in the largest European refinery centre and very close to our major customers from the oil industry. Rotterdam is also the centre of the European vegetable oil market. Logistic costs will be much lower than at any other location due to the proximity to the Sea, the Rhine, the highway and pipeline connections in the harbour.”

BIOPETROL INDUSTRIES AG, based in Zug, Switzerland, produces and distributes via its German and Swiss subsidiaries biodiesel and pharmaceutical grade glycerine of the highest quality. BIOPETROL INDUSTRIES AG currently manufactures approximately 300,000 tonnes of biodiesel and 30,000 tonnes of pharmaceutical glycerine per year in Schwarzheide. At the end of March, building will begin on another facility. In Rotterdam in the Netherlands, BIOPETROL is building a facility with a capacity of 400,000 tonnes of biodiesel and 60,000 tonnes of pharmaceutical glycerine per year. By the end of 2007, annual capacity should have increased five-fold to a total of 750,000 tonnes of biodiesel. Extension of capacity in Rotterdam is being considered, along with extending growth by further acquisitions and extending the product range based on the combination product glycerine.
